Council of State Member Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the Volta Region after joining President John Dramani Mahama on a working visit to tidal wave-hit communities along the coast.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple revealed that he joined the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, the NDC Volta Regional Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor, the Member of Parliament for Anlo, Richard Kwami Sefe, and the District Chief Executive, Sandra Seyram Kpedor, to receive the President and his delegation at Fuveme.

According to him, the visit provided President Mahama with a first-hand assessment of the devastation caused by the recent tidal waves, which have displaced residents and destroyed properties in affected communities.

The delegation also inspected the ongoing Agavedzi Sea Defence Project, where work is reported to be at an advanced stage. Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple expressed optimism about the project’s completion, describing it as a critical intervention to safeguard coastal communities from future disasters.
As part of the visit, the team paid a courtesy call on the Awomefia of the Anlo State, Torgbui Sri III, highlighting the enduring relationship between government and traditional authorities.

Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple conveyed the appreciation of the people of the Volta Region, particularly the chiefs and residents of Fuveme, for the President’s continued attention to their plight. He noted that President Mahama’s assurances to secure the coastline and prevent further destruction have restored hope among the people.

However, he passionately appealed for increased support, stating that while the government’s efforts are commendable, more needs to be done to ensure lasting protection, restoration, and sustainable development for future generations.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the President on behalf of regional leaders, chiefs, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and Assembly Members for his unwavering commitment to the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.

“Akpe kaka,” he added, in appreciation of the President’s visit and support.
