Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has said that Ghana will head to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a winning mentality, insisting the team must be prepared to sacrifice and work collectively for national pride.

Speaking at the “Beyond the Whistle” press conference on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Carlos Queiroz said the World Cup was not about participation but competing for victory.

“No matter the country or the badge, the World Cup means one thing — competing to win,” he said.

The Portuguese trainer added that ambition alone would not be enough unless players were willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

“It’s easy to have wishes in life, but you have to be ready to pay the price to achieve those dreams. We go there to win the World Cup,” Queiroz said.

He also stressed the importance of unity and discipline within the squad, saying no individual would be placed above the national team.

“Nobody will be above the team, and everybody only play the game with only one thing in mind,” he said.

“The only thing that matters is Ghana, the pride of the nation, and the happiness of the people.”

The remarks come as Ghana continues preparations for upcoming international competitions, with expectations high for the Black Stars to re-establish themselves among football’s elite on the global stage.
