Political analyst Dr. John Osae-Kwapong has raised concerns about the ongoing public disagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) over claims regarding the release of more than GH¢1.6 billion for agricultural programmes this year.
The controversy attracted public attention after both ministries presented differing accounts regarding budget execution and the disbursement of funds earmarked for agricultural initiatives.
The conflicting figures have triggered questions about coordination within government and the accuracy of information being communicated to the public.
Commenting on the issue, Dr. Osae-Kwapong suggested that the disagreement should have been handled internally rather than being allowed to play out in the public domain.
He argued that since both institutions are part of the same government, mechanisms should exist to resolve such differences behind closed doors before they become matters of public debate.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 6, the political analyst said the situation risks creating unnecessary speculation and could give rise to broader questions about the relationship between the two ministries.
“If it’s really a bureaucratic disagreement over whether truly the Finance Ministry has made and released funds to the Agric Ministry or not and there is a disagreement over it, this is something that could have been easily resolved privately.
“These are things that you can resolve easily and privately because you are colleagues in the same government and the same party. When they become public, then you make yourself vulnerable to other narratives of whether there are political undertones or something bigger behind this public spate of budget allocations.”
