Choose teaching out of passion — A-Zone Network Director urges students

Dr. Harford Adabor, Founder and Executive Director of A-Zone Network, has encouraged students to pursue teaching out of passion and genuine interest, as part of efforts to guide them toward more fulfilling career choices.

He gave the advice during the “Start Right” career guidance programme held at Mankraso Senior High School.

Addressing the students, Dr. Adabor stressed that teaching is a profession that demands dedication and a strong sense of purpose, urging them to carefully reflect on their interests before choosing colleges of education.

He explained that while teacher training was previously seen as a direct pathway to employment, the current system has evolved, making it important for students to be driven by passion rather than assumptions about guaranteed postings.

“In the past, people chose teacher training colleges for job security because, after completion, they were posted by the government,” he said. “But these days, graduates often stay at home for years before securing employment.”

Dr. Adabor noted that despite these changes, individuals who are passionate about teaching are more likely to remain committed and find opportunities to grow within the profession.

He further encouraged students to make informed career choices based on their strengths and aspirations, stressing that passion-driven decisions often lead to greater fulfilment and long-term success.

The Start Right programme, organised by the A-Zone Network, is aimed at guiding senior high school students to make informed academic and career decisions.

The initiative also exposes participants to scholarship opportunities and connects them with tertiary students, graduates and professionals across various fields.

Founded on March 31, 2017, A-Zone Network is a non-profit organisation made up of professionals, graduates and students committed to mentorship and personal development.

The organisation runs several initiatives, including the A-Zone Mentorship Programme and Outside The Classroom (OTC), which focuses on building practical skills such as leadership, public speaking, financial management and employability.

Through these initiatives, A-Zone Network continues to support young people in pursuing careers aligned with their passions and long-term aspirations.
