Parents of four final-year students of Ghanata Senior High School(SHS) have accused the headmistress of mishandling an alleged theft case involving their wards, who were arrested over claims of stealing food items from the school’s dining hall.
According to the parents, the students were handed over to the police without prior notification to their families, a move they say denied them the opportunity to intervene or resolve the matter internally.
Speaking to Citi News, spokesperson for the affected parents, Samuel Amanor, said they expected to be engaged before the matter was escalated.
“We were expecting the headmistress to call us the parents and brief us so we find an amicable solution. However, we the parents were sidelined and she handed over the kids in her care to the police and they were locked up in the cell,” he said.
He further alleged that an initial demand of GH¢24,000 was made for the release of the four students.
According to him, the students, who were detained on Friday, June 12, 2026, were later released on Saturday after parents raised GH¢8,000.
