A 35-year-old man, identified only as Ezekiel, has been arrested by police for allegedly murdering a 60-year-old man at Awutu Bibianiha in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.

The suspect is alleged to have attacked and killed the deceased over his relationship with the suspect’s aunt.

According to residents, the suspect had on several occasions warned the deceased to stay away from his aunt. They also claimed he had repeatedly threatened to kill someone in the community, but the warnings were not taken seriously.

Reports indicated that the deceased had recently separated from his wife, with whom he had children, and had begun a new relationship with the suspect’s aunt.

The alleged attack occurred on the night of Friday, June 26, with the suspect reportedly acting alone. Police were subsequently called to the scene and arrested him.

The deceased’s brother, Kojo Bentum, appealed for justice, expressing shock upon hearing the news.

“We received a call this morning informing us about the death of our relative. Information we received suggested he had been murdered, so we reported the matter to the police in Bawjiase, who have since conveyed the body to the mortuary.

“It is true that the deceased was in a relationship with Ezekiel’s aunt. They were even together last night, so we are struggling to understand what could have led him to commit the murder. We are appealing for justice. He has confessed to committing the act,”he said.

The incident has left residents and traditional leaders in the community in shock, with calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The acting Abusuapanin of Bibianiha, Nana Kweku Asare, said he was informed of the incident in the early hours of the morning and confirmed that the suspect had been taken into police custody.

“I heard about the incident around 5 a.m. I was informed at the palace that the suspect had been arrested and taken to the police station. The suspect admitted that he used a club and a machete to commit the act,” he said.
