Commercial banks have urged customers to rely on digital banking channels after heavy rains and flooding in parts of Accra on Monday morning.

The banks announced delays in the opening of some branches, citing the adverse weather conditions and encouraged customers to use mobile and internet banking platforms while prioritising their personal safety.

In separate notices to customers, banks such as Access Bank, ECOBANK, Prudential, Standard Charted among others noted that the heavy rainfall had affected accessibility to some branches, resulting in partial operations and delayed services.

“Due to the current heavy rains, there will be delays in opening most of our branches in Accra this morning. Please stay safe and use our online and mobile banking platforms for your banking needs,” one bank said in a customer advisory.

The bank apologised for the inconvenience and assured customers that updates would be provided as the situation evolves.

Other commercial banks also informed customers that flooding in parts of the capital could affect branch operations but stressed that its digital banking channels remain fully operational.

“Due to heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of Accra, some branches may experience service delays. We apologise for the inconvenience. Your safety comes first; please stay indoors if you can. You can still bank conveniently on our mobile app or internet banking,” the bank said.

Customers are therefore being encouraged to carry out routine transactions including transfers, bill payments, airtime purchases and account management through mobile banking applications and internet banking platforms until normal branch operations resume.

The banks say they will continue to monitor the situation and provide customers with updates on branch operations as weather conditions improve.

Customers requiring urgent assistance have been advised to contact their respective banks through customer service centres or digital support channels while avoiding unnecessary travel during the flooding.
