Students of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) have launched UniMAC Eye, a student-led media platform aimed at strengthening campus communication, showcasing student achievements and equipping aspiring media professionals with practical industry experience.
The platform was officially unveiled at a ceremony held at the University’s South Legon Campus Auditorium, attended by students, faculty members, media practitioners and guests.
Founded by student leader Hafiz Larry Alhassan, UniMAC Eye is designed to serve as a dedicated platform for campus news, storytelling, student engagement and professional development.
Speaking at the launch, Alhassan said the initiative was inspired by the need to give visibility to the many achievements and activities within the university community.
“For far too long, many remarkable stories within our university community have remained untold,” he said.
“Students are winning awards, launching businesses, leading initiatives, conducting research, organising impactful events and creating change in their own ways. Yet many of these stories never reach the wider community.”
He said the platform would ensure students’ stories, concerns and achievements are documented and shared.
“Every student has a story worth telling. Every achiever deserves recognition. Every voice deserves to be heard,” he stated.
Beyond news reporting, Alhassan said UniMAC Eye would serve as a practical training ground for students pursuing careers in the media industry.
“The UniMAC Eye project is not just about amplifying student voices. It is supposed to give students the practical experience they need to transition well into the industry,” he said.
According to him, students participating in the platform will gain hands-on experience in journalism, broadcasting, photography, videography, graphic design, editing, social media management and content creation.
“If you are part of the team today as a presenter, it should not be difficult for you to get opportunities in any of the media outlets in this country. It should be a smooth transition from a student platform into the industry,” he added.
Alhassan also said the initiative seeks to address communication challenges within the university by providing timely information on programmes, events and opportunities.
“Today, we unveil a movement—a movement that seeks to solve the problem of communication within the UniMAC community,” he said.
One of the highlights of the event was the unveiling of the platform’s official logo.
Presenting the logo, Clemencia Apaga said the design reflects the platform’s commitment to truth, awareness and student representation.
“Our slogan, ‘Eyes on Campus, Voice for Students,’ reflects our commitment to observing, documenting and telling the stories that matter to the student community,” she said.
Graphic designer Dogbatse Atsu Eugene explained that the logo was developed after extensive brainstorming and revisions to ensure it reflected both the concept of an eye and the University’s identity.
“When the concept was presented to me, I thought that if it was UniMAC Eye, then the design had to reflect the eye itself while staying connected to UniMAC,” he said.
Declaring the platform officially launched, Alhassan expressed gratitude to members of the team and supporters who contributed to bringing the vision to life.
“I’m proud to have built this platform together with all of you who believed in the vision from day one,” he said.
He disclosed that UniMAC Eye has already recorded more than 10,000 views across its digital platforms, including YouTube, TikTok and Facebook, and announced plans to expand its programmes, recruit more contributors and collaborate with established media organisations.
Students who attended the launch welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely platform that would improve communication, promote student achievements and provide practical opportunities for aspiring media professionals.
