Ghanaian ride-hailing provider Mijo on GhanaPostGPS is rebranding to VaMijo, an independent mobile application, as the service will no longer be operating under the GhanaPost platform—
The shift is designed to make booking rides faster, easier and more accessible for passengers.
The rebranding marks a significant step in the platform’s growth. Rather than accessing the service through the GhanaPostGPS app, users can now simply download the VaMijo app directly from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, register and begin requesting rides immediately.
The transition reflects the platform’s ambition to establish its own identity while retaining the core features that have distinguished it since launch—affordable rides, precise digital addressing and a driver-focused operating model.
A simpler way to book rides
For riders, the biggest change is convenience.
Previously, passengers had to access Mijo through the GhanaPostGPS application before requesting a ride. With VaMijo, that extra step has been removed.
Now, users only need to:
Download the VaMijo app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Register or sign in.
Enter their pickup and destination.
Request a ride.
The dedicated app offers a more streamlined experience while maintaining the location accuracy made possible by Ghana’s National Digital Address System.
The same driver-first philosophy
Although the name has changed, VaMijo continues to build on the principles that attracted attention when the platform launched earlier this year.
At the time, many ride-hailing drivers had expressed frustration over rising commission charges on existing platforms, with some saying deductions had climbed to as much as 30 per cent of trip earnings.
VaMijo continues to differentiate itself through its subscription-based model, allowing drivers to retain their trip earnings instead of paying commission on every ride. Drivers are also allowed to opt for VaMijo Flexy where they have control over their payments. The approach is intended to improve drivers’ income while supporting competitive pricing for passengers.
Built for Ghana by Ghanaians
Another feature that continues to set VaMijo apart is its integration with Ghana’s digital addressing infrastructure.
By leveraging the GhanaPostGPS addressing system, the platform enables more accurate pickup and drop-off locations, reducing the need for lengthy phone calls and directions that often accompany ride requests.
The platform also retains its emphasis on safety through identity verification and driver documentation requirements introduced at launch.
More than a new name
The transition from Mijo on GhanaPostGPS to VaMijo represents more than a rebranding exercise.
It signals the evolution of a Ghanaian-built ride-hailing platform into an independent digital mobility service with its own dedicated ecosystem with over 100,000 completed rides since its launch on May 1, 2026.
For passengers, the message is straightforward:
You no longer need the GhanaPostGPS app to request a ride.
Simply download VaMijo, book your ride, and enjoy an affordable, locally built ride-hailing experience designed around convenience, precision and value.
