New Patriotic Party [NPP] Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Emmanuel Agyarko Kyeremanteng believes the President was only acting in the interest of the country when he dismissed his brother, Boakye Agyarko as Energy Minister.

“No person is indispensable. Whatever it takes, this government must succeed. Who said what and who did what is immaterial. I will want to stick to what the Spokesperson of the President said that the President feels that for the sake of this country and for the sake of the people of this country and for the sake of his administration, the Minister has to go and I think that is what matters.Who said what and who did what is all not important.”

President Akufo-Addo on Monday, August 6, 2018, sacked the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

A statement from the Communications Directorate of the Presidency said Mr. Agyarko’s firing “takes immediate effect.”

Why was Boakye Agyarko sacked?

[contextly_sidebar id=”OPxdlabvbWeFwLjm0kQK5CFc65UtGRwL”]The Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin had confirmed that Boakye Agyarko’s dismissal as the Energy Minister was due to his handling of the AMERI novation and amendment agreement.

“In a nutshell, it [the dismissal] is to do with the issue of the controversial AMERI deal. That is why the President has relieved the Minister for Energy of his position,” he said.

Emmanuel Agyarko believes the President carefully considered the controversies surrounding the Ameri deal before taking a decision to dismiss him.

“He has looked at it [Ameri deal]. It did not go well so for the sake of Ghanaians and his administration, the Minister had to go.”

Peter Amewu new Energy Minister

Having initially been named as the acting Minister of Energy, Lands and Natural Resources Minister will now serve as the substantive Minister.

His appointment was a number of changes made by President Akufo-Addo to his government in his first reshuffle.
