President Akufo-Addo has tasked the Muslim community to use the celebration of Eid-ul Adha to instil the value of putting others and the nation above every other thing.

Nana Addo reminded Muslims to draw lessons from the sacrifices of Prophet Mohammed to God, which forms a core element of their religion.

In a message to wish the Islamic faith the very best of the occasion, Nana Addo urged them to extend their teachings on self-sacrifice to the larger Ghanaian society.

“Eid-ul Adha is an occasion for us to remember the sacrifices Prophet Ibrahim made in obedience to the will of God. Islam means peace and submission to the will of God. Islam should, thus, inculcate in us a sense of sacrifice- that puts others and our nation first”, the message noted.

The President also cautioned celebrants to be moderate in their jubilations, he prayed for and incident-free Eid celebration.

“We have a right to make merry and celebrate. But let us celebrate and make merry in moderation. I pray for a trouble-free and accident-free Eid celebration. “

Here is the President’s full message

On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I wish all Muslims a Happy Eid-ul Adha celebration.

“Eid-ul Adha is an occasion for us to remember the sacrifices Prophet Ibrahim made in obedience to the will of God. Islam means peace and submission to the will of God.

Islam should, thus, inculcate in us a sense of sacrifice- that puts others and our nation first.

That is the meaning of Eid-Ul Adha.

We have a right to make merry and celebrate.

But let us celebrate and make merry in moderation.

I pray for a trouble-free and accident-free Eid celebration.

May the Almighty Allah bless us all, and make our nation great and strong. Asalamu Alaikum!”

Eid ul-Adha, commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah.

It is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.
