Tragedy struck early Tuesday [February 11] morning along the Tech-Oforikrom stretch of the Kumasi-Accra highway when a devastating head-on collision resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others injured.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. at the Opoku Transport intersection, a known busy junction along the highway.

The fatal crash involved a Ford Transit trotro bus and an OA-branded commercial bus, both of which were traveling along the highway in the early morning hours.

According to eyewitnesses, the trotro, which was carrying passengers towards Oforikrom, was moving at high speed when it suddenly collided with the OA bus at the junction.

Eric Gyasi, an eyewitness who was at the scene at the time of the accident, recounted the terrifying moment when the trotro bus, which appeared to be speeding, slammed into the side of the OA bus while attempting to negotiate a curve.

According to reports, the impact of the collision was so severe that the driver of the trotro bus and his conductor (mate) lost their lives on the spot.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service, arrived swiftly to extract the victims from the wreckage.

Several passengers aboard the OA bus sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
