ASA Savings and Loans as part of its environmental sustainability drive, held environmental awareness programmes at Laterbiokoshie Presby JHS and Nii Kojo Ababio Basic School last tuesday, in partnership with Buzstopboys.
As part of the event the financial firm donated to each school a trash receptacle that will be used to collect plastics to reduce plastic waste often generated in schools.
The team from ASA revealed that raising environmental awareness will support young people to develop a firm ecological mindset and use it to overcome today’s environmental challenges through strong commitment.
The CSR/Sustainability Manager of ASA, Richard Nartey disclosed to the media that this is a great opportunity to raise awareness about climate change and encourage environmental stewardship amongst teachers and students.”This is our contribution towards UN SDG-3, Good health and well-being; SDG-4, Quality education; SDG-6, Clean water and sanitation; SDG-13, Climate Action; SDG-14, Life below water, SDG-15, Life on land,” he added.
Mr Nartey concluded by saying that this initiative is to ensure students are aware of the many sustainable actions we can all easily practice to reduce our impact on the environment and motivate them to implement actions such as personal hygiene.
James Sarfo, a team lead of Buzstopboys spoke extensively on proper disposal of waste and encouraged the participants on the need to volunteer in promoting environmental sustainability. Mr Sarfo used the opportunity to encourage the students to think innovatively about other ways they can overcome the many environmental challenges we face. He demonstrated how to efficiently dispose off plastics to the admiration of all.
The event had over 500 participating students with focus on plastic pollution and its management. At the end, management of the schools assured ASA they will put the donated trash receptacle to good use in support of good hygiene and sanitation.
