Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has dismissed claims that National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament who have not yet been nominated to ministerial positions by President John Dramani Mahama are hungry, idle, or jobless.
President Mahama had pledged to work with 60 ministers as part of his new administration. So far, 56 appointments have been made, leaving four positions yet to be filled.
The delay has sparked public speculation about dissatisfaction among some MPs who are still waiting for appointments.
However, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Dafeamekpor insisted that the unappointed MPs are actively engaged in constituency work and remain committed to the party’s agenda.
“My MPs are not hungry, they are not idle, and they are not jobless,” he affirmed.
He went on to highlight that President Mahama’s ministerial pledge influenced the political landscape during the 2024 elections, pushing his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to also make a similar promise.
“When flagbearer and now President Mahama promised to appoint 60 ministers, it compelled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, [2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party] to also promise 50,” Dafeamekpor noted. “I can say that, that kind of promise also endeared him to the people for the massive votes.”
He maintained that the NDC remains united and focused on fulfilling its commitments to the Ghanaian people.
