Power supply improves in Volta Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region has said that it has made significant progress in addressing the recent power supply challenges that affected parts of the Volta Region.

This comes after weeks of persistent outages and low voltage that disrupted daily life and affected businesses.

Speaking to Citi News, on Friday, May 16, 2025, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, Eunice Tweneboa Kodua, outlined steps taken to stabilise supply across the region.

She noted that while major faults have been rectified, a few isolated cases of low voltage are still being recorded.

“In the past, we experienced power fluctuations across our lines in the region, and we informed residents that we would be undertaking some maintenance work. This is because, within the power value chain, we do not operate in isolation. We engaged GRIDCo to support us, and they scheduled planned maintenance for April 22, 2025.

“The maintenance began on that date, and since then, we can all attest that the power supply has been relatively stable. We appeal to our customers to bear with us as we continue working to resolve any remaining issues. Whatever challenges arise, we are committed to doing our best,” she stated.

Residents, however, say while there has been marked improvement, the low voltage issues remain unstable in some areas.

Seyram Foe-Ahorney who is a resident, said: “For the past few days, we have experienced some stable electricity supply to our homes and businesses. For some time now, we have been experiencing intermittent power supply which has caused some damage. But after their maintenance, now everything is under control. The only issue now is the low voltage, which we have been talking about for some time now.”
