The family of Suzzy Pinamang, the 16-year-old Form Two student of Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi who was struck in the eye by a stray bullet on campus, says their top priority now is to support her full recovery and help her return to school.
Suzzy recently returned to Ghana after undergoing successful eye surgery in the United Kingdom, a procedure that has restored her vision. The life-changing operation was made possible through the generosity of businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, who also funded her travel and medical expenses.
The incident, which initially plunged the family into despair, occurred when a fellow student reportedly discharged a stray bullet that struck Suzzy in the eye. The resulting injury left her vision impaired and cast doubt over her academic future.
“It was a moment of despair for us,” a relative recounted. “We didn’t know if she would ever see again or return to school.”
But hope was rekindled following Mr. Mahama’s intervention. Medical experts abroad expressed confidence in Suzzy’s chances of regaining her sight—and she did.
Now back home at her family’s Twedie residence, Suzzy shared her renewed determination to move forward.
“I am doing well, thanks to the support of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama and the prayers of Ghanaians,” she said.
“At first, I lost interest in going back to school, but I’ve changed my mind. I want to return and pursue my dreams of becoming a prominent person, so I can also help others in society.”
Mr. Mahama has pledged to continue supporting Suzzy’s education and general welfare as she transitions back into academic life.
Her family expressed profound gratitude for his benevolence and said they are hopeful about her future.
