After 11 months of being granted the lease to revamp the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, which has been dormant for some time now, Heath Goldfields has commenced mining operations with 700 people already employed.
Speaking to Channel One TV during a tour of the revamping progress at the mine by the Chiefs and people of Prestea and its environs, on Friday, October 17, the Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Patrick Appiah Mensah, said despite dewatering of the underground mine is ongoing, they have already started processing of ore from their open pit after $75million investments.
“We are running our process plant; thus, we are bringing material from the open pit and dewatering the underground mine, so our operations have technically started,” he said.
He gave further details on the dewatering and process plant operations.
“We are making sure that the underground mine is safe to be able to operate. So the Prestea underground mine is in a healthy condition.
“We are dewatering the place, and there is no risk of a failure because of the water situation. With the dewatering of the underground pit, we expect that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, we should be at the 24 level.
“We are actually pumping 12 million litres daily. On the process plant, too, we have done a lot of work. We have started to test run the process plant as of yesterday. The plant runs intermittently as we fix the issues,” he added.
On employment, Patrick Appiah Mensah said Health Goldfields remains committed, especially to jobs for locals.
“We are busy reopening the mines, and we have given employment to about 700 people between our employees as Health Goldfields staff and those of our business partners that are operating the mine. We see this as very important and are working hard to ramp up our operations so local jobs and contracts will also go up,” he noted.
He expressed appreciation to the Chiefs and people of Prestea for taking time to visit the plant to see how things are progressing at the plant and promised to ensure their operations benefit the community at large.
The Chief of Prestea-Himan, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea-Huni-Valley, Dr Mathew Aryeh, commended the progress made toward restarting full operations of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine and await their share from their operations in jobs and development.
