Mahama will not shield any NDC member involved in galamsey – Delali Sewoekpor

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Delali Sewoekpor, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama will not hesitate to sanction any member of the NDC found complicit in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, November 3, 2025, Mr. Sewoekpor said President Mahama’s stance against illegal mining is firm and non-negotiable, regardless of political affiliation.

“Pollution, they say, is localised, but the effect is global. I have every single commitment and every single confidence in President John Dramani Mahama to fight galamsey. I heard my colleague saying that some NDC MPs are allegedly involved in galamsey. I want to tell you that if the said person or people are found culpable, President Mahama will deal with that person,” he said.

He added that the President’s zero-tolerance approach reflects the national mood, as Ghanaians are increasingly unwilling to condone impunity in the fight against illegal mining.

“Ghanaians have come to the point that the era of impunity is over. Now, Ghanaians are not willing to tolerate the act of impunity when it comes to galamsey. That is why the president sent a clear signal to his appointees: once you are an appointee, whether you are an NDC member or whatever, you have no right to own a mining license or a lease,” Mr. Sewoekpor stressed.

He also commended the efforts of the government through the National Inter-Ministerial Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), noting that its work demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ending the galamsey menace.

“When you look at NAIMOS and their activities, it shows the level of commitment that this government has invested in when it comes to fighting galamsey, and the NPP must applaud President Mahama for showing leadership,” he said.
