Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has assured Ghanaians that no citizen should fear exercising their constitutional rights, following a petition delivered to President John Dramani Mahama calling for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
The petition was presented during a march dubbed “Agro Ne Fom,” organised by a group of citizens who claim the Special Prosecutor has failed to fulfill his mandate.
Lead convenor Apostle Abraham Larbi Lincoln described the demonstration as a way to highlight perceived inefficiency at the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the President, Shamima Muslim emphasised the importance of freedom of expression and reaffirmed the administration’s respect for citizens’ rights.
“It is good when people get to exercise their constitutional right to freedom of expression. His Excellency has assured all citizens, all people of various political parties, that he is a president who believes in the rights of the citizen.
He has assured that no citizen must be fearful in the expression of their rights. So, we see your demonstration here today as a way to activate our constitution, which is a living document,” she said.
