Citi FM and Channel One TV have donated cash and relief items valued at over GH₵30,000 to the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region.
The donation includes GH₵18,000 worth of food items, detergents, and toiletries, GH₵7,000 worth of braille sheets, and GH₵10,000 in cash.
The donation forms part of the Help a Christmas Child Initiative, an outreach programme by Citi FM and Channel One TV through the Citi FM Foundation. Although initially scheduled for December 2025, the outreach was rescheduled to January at the request of the school.
Speaking during the presentation on Friday, January 30, Head of Administration of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Matthew Idun, said the support was made possible through the generosity of the stations’ listeners and viewers.
“Listeners of Citi FM and Channel One TV viewers have sent us to you. We were hoping to meet you during the Christmas holidays, but God has made a way for us to be here at this appointed time.
“So all the gifts are coming from our donors, our listeners and our viewers. And we also want to extend such blessings to you. They know about you. They hear so much about you. Citi FM is a vessel through which our listeners and viewers are reaching you this morning. So we say God bless our listeners and our viewers,” he said.
Mr Idun encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and to obey their instructors.
“All we ask of you is to concentrate. All we ask of you is to listen to your instructors. All we ask of you is to be obedient to the headmistress,” he urged.
On her part, the Headmistress of the school, Veronica Derry, described the donation as timely, noting that the braille sheets will significantly enhance academic work.
“We are so happy to see you here. Their visit was planned since December 2025, but because we were on Christmas break, they couldn’t come. Today [Friday, January 30, they are here, which shows they truly have the blind at heart.
“You have not come with empty hands. You have brought items to help us, especially the braille sheets. It is what we use daily in the classroom for note-taking and academic work. We are very grateful, and we hope you will continue to visit us whenever the need arises,” she said.
