Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has called on the Transport Ministry to take urgent action against erratic fare practices, expressing dissatisfaction over weak regulation that has left passengers to bear the brunt.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, he described the persistent fluctuation in transport fares as unacceptable, particularly the practice where drivers charge different fares in the morning and increase prices later in the day without official approval.
He said the situation reflects weak oversight and poor public engagement by the Transport Ministry.
According to him, the absence of clear communication and enforcement has allowed arbitrary fare adjustments to thrive, leaving commuters confused and exploited.
Dr Adomako Kissi stressed that a proactive Transport Ministry must consistently engage the public and work closely with transport unions to explain pricing decisions and enforce agreed fares.
He noted that without decisive action from the ministry and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the transport sector would remain a major obstacle to the government’s broader economic reset agenda.
“We need to see the Transport Ministry and the GPRTU solving this issue; if not, I do not see a reset agenda without the Transport Ministry. Ghanaians gave you their mandate because of some of these issues. The government should thoroughly look into it; passengers are suffering,” he warned.
