A young mobile money operator has been shot dead at the entrance to his home in Garu in the Upper East Region, in what residents describe as a targeted and brazen attack.

The victim, identified only as K2, was killed on February 24, 2026, at Bugnatenga, a suburb of Garu.

According to reports, he had closed from work and was returning home when unknown gunmen ambushed him. The assailants reportedly opened fire at close range, killing him instantly before escaping.

The killing has heightened anxiety within the community, particularly among small business operators who fear they may be vulnerable to similar attacks. Residents said the nature of the crime, striking at the victim’s doorstep, has left many shaken.

The incident adds to a growing list of gun-related killings in the area in recent months, including a reported attack at the Garu District Health Insurance Office and other shootings that have claimed several lives.

Community members further called for urgent security intervention, insisting that swift action is needed to restore public confidence and prevent further loss of life.
