The Bryan Acheampong campaign team has attributed its performance in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries to limited time for campaigning, while reaffirming respect for the election results announced on Saturday, January 31.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, February 2, Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for the campaign, rejected suggestions that delegates were influenced by money, insisting that the NPP’s approach prioritises integrity and messaging.
He noted that the campaign’s strategy and message were strong, but the compressed timeline limited their outreach.
“Any suggestion that money accounted for the delegates’ massive confidence in him would be insulting to their integrity. The NPP way has never been the money way, but the message and integrity way. We were limited by time, but had the election been held later, we are confident the results would have been different,” Hadzide said.
Acknowledging the National Council’s decision to hold the election on January 31, he said the timing was understandable despite the constraints it imposed. “Personally, I think the end of the year [2026] would have been a decent time, but we accept the calendar set by the council,” he added.
Despite the challenges, the campaign expressed its willingness to support the party’s agenda ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The election saw former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secure a decisive victory with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48%, positioning him to lead the party into the next general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes (23.76%), while Dr. Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes (18.53%).
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong followed in fourth and fifth places with 1,999 votes (1.02%) and 402 votes (0.21%), respectively.
