Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited has announced plans to increase electricity supply to Ghana’s national grid through the development of a 200-megawatt wind farm in Ada West.
The Independent Power Producer disclosed that it is at an advanced stage of the wind energy project as part of efforts to expand its generation portfolio and strengthen power supply.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 17, the company’s Co-founder, Togbe Afede XVI, said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a major exporter of electricity within sub-Saharan Africa.
“Asogli Power has acquired four sites for the development of solar power projects, with an initial target of 200 megawatts. It is also working on a 100-200 megawatt wind farm in the Sege area of the Ada West district. We also have planned the third phase of our thermal project, which will add 850 megawatts,” he said.
He further disclosed that the company intends to begin establishing a power plant in Burkina Faso in March 2026, as part of its regional expansion drive.
“Sunon Asogli Power is also pursuing opportunities in other African countries, Burkina Faso and Cameroon, to which Asogli Power will start supplying power from March 2026,” he added.
The planned projects are expected to significantly boost generation capacity and enhance Ghana’s ambition to become a key electricity hub in the West African sub-region.
