The Minister for Energy, John Jinapor, says government is fully engaged in restoring stability to the power system following the fire incident at the Akosombo Power Control Centre, with technical teams working continuously to resolve the situation.

He said authorities, together with relevant agencies in the energy sector, have responded swiftly to reduce the impact of the incident on electricity supply and restore normal operations.

“I state this humbly, and to all those affected by this situation, I wish to assure you that I deeply empathise with you and I share your frustration,” he said at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday April 27.

Mr Jinapor described the incident as unexpected, noting that it has created serious operational difficulties within the power infrastructure.

“We never anticipated, we never saw it coming. We never witnessed it. It is challenging, but we would rise above this challenge,” he said.

He assured the public that coordinated efforts are underway, with engineers deployed on site working under difficult conditions to restore the system.

“Let me assure you that government working through all relevant sector agencies have responded with urgency and coordination,” he said.

He added that technical personnel remain at the site, working continuously to ensure full restoration.

“Our engineers have still remained on site working on the clock under very extreme and difficult conditions to restore operations,” he said.

The incident at Akosombo has triggered concerns about the reliability of the national grid, with ongoing technical assessments and recovery operations continuing.
