Ghana’s digital future is actively being shaped today, but who is driving this progress? While we celebrate a significant expansion of educational opportunities nationwide, an inequality persists; women account for only 25% of the country’s technical workforce, according to recent data.
This statistic is more than a number; it represents a systemic bottleneck that actively threatens to restrict our country’s entire economic and technological potential.
Genuine innovation requires diversity to flourish, and to successfully build an inclusive and resilient economy, we must confront the entrenched structural barriers and cultural stereotypes that prevent young women from entering and succeeding in technical disciplines such as engineering.
On EdTech Mondays this April, we are moving past merely acknowledging the gender gap and are actively seeking actionable, strategic solutions to dismantle the intimidation and fear currently felt by young women.

Meet Our Guest
Joining us to explore this critical topic is a true pioneer, Ing. Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana.
As the renowned host of the National Science & Maths Quiz, Prof. Kaufmann brings a unique perspective, combining her intense research laboratory experience with her role as a high-profile national advocate.
She will share her personal story, detailing the steps she took to surmount both personal and systemic hurdles on her journey to a leadership position in Biomedical Engineering.
Additionally, Prof. Kaufmann will explore how EdTech can be utilised to reduce the gender gap in STEM fields.
