President John Dramani Mahama has inspected ongoing construction works on a new cardiology centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Northern Region.

The facility, being developed under the MahamaCares (Ghana Medical Trust Fund), is expected to enhance specialised healthcare delivery in the country, particularly in the area of cardiovascular care.

When completed, the centre will focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of heart-related conditions, addressing a critical gap in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The project is also aimed at easing the burden on patients in the northern parts of the country who often have to travel long distances, sometimes to Accra or even outside Ghana to access advanced cardiac care.

By bringing such specialised services closer to the people, the initiative is expected to improve timely intervention and health outcomes.

During the inspection, President Mahama interacted with engineers and health officials overseeing the project and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work so far.

He emphasised that investments in healthcare infrastructure remain a top priority under his administration’s broader development agenda.

According to the President, expanding access to modern and well-equipped medical facilities is essential to improving the quality of care nationwide.

He noted that strengthening tertiary healthcare institutions like the Tamale Teaching Hospital will play a pivotal role in addressing the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, including heart conditions.

President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that all regions benefit from equitable access to quality healthcare services.
