The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on John Dramani Mahama and the political leadership of Ghana to set the tone for a new political culture anchored on tolerance, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.
He also urged a departure from politics marked by acrimony and personal attacks, advocating instead for what he described as a “new politics” built on truth, mutual respect, and zero tolerance for insults.
He stressed that the country’s democratic progress depends on a more responsible and development-focused political environment.
He further emphasised that national discourse must prioritise the collective good, calling for leadership that is firmly focused on advancing Ghana’s development agenda.
While highlighting the importance of peace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that its sustainability is tied to key governance principles, including good governance, adherence to the rule of law, and the building of a resilient economy.
“We hope he will help set the tone for a new politics for the decade of the 70s. A new politics less in acrimony, exert tolerance of insults, laid on the foundations of truth, discipline, and respect for law and order, and focused on development.
“We need a new paradigm in relations between the state and business, which recognises that successful governance is predicated on success in business, and business becomes the key barometer by which we measure national prosperity.”
