Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the importance of digital integration in safeguarding economic sovereignty and driving Africa’s participation in the global economy.
Speaking at the 3i Africa Summit 2026 on Wednesday, May 6, she said the continent must prioritise building interconnected digital systems to remain competitive and relevant in an increasingly technology-driven world.
According to her, Africa must move beyond being described as a “frontier” and instead focus on organising its systems to compete, integrate, and scale effectively.
“Economic sovereignty now also depends on integration, particularly digital integration, because this is where value is created, exchanged, and controlled,” she said.
She also added that Ghana’s positioning as a gateway to Africa must be supported by efficient systems that facilitate seamless transactions, enable rapid business connections and ensure market certainty.
“A gateway is not just a title. It is a system measured by whether transactions clear, businesses connect speedily, and markets operate with certainty,” she added.
