A total of 37,111 candidates from 808 schools in the Northern Region are set to sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which begins on Monday, May 4, across 132 examination centres.

According to a statement from the Northern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, the candidates include 33,329 from public schools and 3,782 from private institutions. Of the total, 19,026 are males and 18,085 are females.

To ensure a smooth and credible examination process, the Directorate, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council, has deployed 132 supervisors, 130 assistant supervisors and 1,321 invigilators across the region.

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhassan Alidu Junior, urged candidates to remain calm, focused and confident throughout the examination period, describing the BECE as a critical milestone in their academic journey.

Candidates have also been cautioned to strictly adhere to examination regulations, avoid all forms of malpractice and reject leaked questions or unauthorised assistance.

The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to tackling examination malpractice, stressing that such practices undermine academic credibility, personal integrity and national development.

It further called on stakeholders, including parents, teachers, security agencies and the media, to support efforts to ensure a free, fair and transparent examination process.
