Wanderlust Ghana has launched a new long-distance expedition, setting out to drive from Accra to Toronto in what is being described as a historic overland and transoceanic journey from West Africa to North America.
The 2026 expedition follows the team’s earlier feat of driving from Accra to London and will see them travel across Africa, Europe and North America, passing through about 12 countries before reaching Canada.
The team says the journey is also aimed at rallying support for Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, scheduled to begin on June 11.
“Every checkpoint on this journey is a dateline, and every border crossing is a headline. We are not just driving — we are putting Ghana on the world’s road map,” said Kwabena Peprah, Team Lead of Wanderlust Ghana.
Organisers describe the expedition as a “road to the World Cup,” with a convoy of Ghanaians travelling across continents to support the Black Stars.
The journey is being supported by two Ghanaian companies. Star Oil is providing fuel for the trip, while SIC Insurance PLC is offering comprehensive insurance coverage for both the team and their vehicles.
According to SIC Insurance, its travel insurance package covers medical emergencies, evacuation, personal accidents and other travel-related risks across multiple countries, while its motor insurance provides protection against damage, third-party liability and mechanical losses throughout the journey.
“This partnership reflects our deep commitment to backing bold Ghanaian ambitions,” said James Agyenim-Boateng, Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC.
“We are not just underwriting assets; we are underwriting aspirations. As the Wanderlust team carries Ghana’s flag to the world stage, they do so with the full confidence and protection of SIC Insurance behind them every kilometre of the way,” he added.
