Star Oil Ghana has cautioned motorists to avoid refuelling unless absolutely necessary as heavy rains and flooding increase the risk of water contamination in underground fuel storage tanks.
The warning was issued by the Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil Ghana, Kwame Tieku, who said flood conditions could compromise fuel quality and pose risks to vehicles.
“Avoid buying fuel today if not urgent ‼ Floods are a big risk for water entering the fuel underground tanks!! Our teams are constantly monitoring for water infiltration, though… but avoid filling up if you can,” he said.
His remarks come amid heightened concerns over flooding in parts of the country following persistent rainfall, which has disrupted transport networks and raised safety concerns for motorists.
Fuel stations typically store petroleum products in underground tanks, which can become vulnerable during severe flooding if water seeps into the storage systems. Such contamination can affect fuel quality and potentially damage vehicle engines.
Star Oil said its technical teams are continuously monitoring its storage facilities for signs of water infiltration but urged motorists to exercise caution and postpone refuelling where possible until conditions improve.
