A Catholic church in Adenta has opened its doors to residents seeking shelter following Monday’s heavy rains that triggered flooding in parts of Accra.
In a public appeal shared on social media, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Adenta invited both Catholics and non-Catholics affected by the downpour to take refuge at the church.
The Church also urged residents to prioritise their safety as the rains intensified.
“Catholics and Non-Catholics in Adenta, we have opened doors at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Adenta, for you all! Let us be safe. This rain is ‘abnormally abnormal’. Be safe! Jesus is Lord!” the post read.
The gesture comes as heavy rainfall on Monday caused widespread flooding across several parts of the Greater Accra Region, leaving roads impassable, submerging homes and disrupting transportation.
Emergency response efforts have been ongoing in affected communities, with authorities urging residents in flood-prone areas to move to safer locations and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
The church’s decision to provide temporary shelter forms part of community efforts to support residents affected by the severe weather while the rains continue.
