At least three people have reportedly been electrocuted to death at Alajo in the Ayawaso Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region after heavy rains triggered widespread flooding in the area.
The incident occurred following a torrential downpour on the morning of Monday, June 29, which submerged several homes and caused extensive damage to property across parts of the capital.
The victims, believed to be in their mid-twenties to early thirties, were reportedly electrocuted while attempting to retrieve their belongings from floodwaters that had inundated their homes.
Residents said the flooding left many households stranded, forcing some occupants to wade through the water in an attempt to salvage personal belongings before the electrocution occurred.
The incident adds to the growing human toll of the heavy rains, which have disrupted transport, displaced residents and caused widespread flooding in several communities across the Greater Accra Region.
