Weija-Gbawe MP and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare access after visiting residents who benefited from eye surgeries under a constituency-based health screening initiative.
The visit took place on Thursday morning at SDA Valley View Hospital, where 40 beneficiaries were being discharged following successful procedures carried out on June 17, 2026.

March screening leads to surgeries
The intervention stems from a week-long eye screening exercise conducted in March 2026 across the Weija-Gbawe Constituency. The outreach was organised in collaboration with the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (USA), the Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), and medical personnel from Valley View Hospital.
The screening identified residents requiring surgical eye care, with arrangements made to support their treatment.
221 beneficiaries shortlisted, 40 undergo surgery
Following the March exercise, 221 residents were assessed and shortlisted for further medical intervention.
Out of this number, 40 beneficiaries reported to Valley View Hospital on June 16 and underwent successful eye surgery on June 17, 2026. They are expected to be discharged on June 18.

MP interacts with beneficiaries
Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib visited the facility to interact with patients, assess their recovery, and commend the medical teams involved.
“I interacted with the beneficiaries, checked on their recovery, and reaffirmed my commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for all residents,” the MP said.
He praised the collaboration between Valley View Hospital, GAHS, and the Columbia Union Conference for their role in delivering both the screening and surgical interventions.
The Second Deputy Minority Whip said the initiative forms part of his broader agenda to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency, particularly in areas requiring specialised medical attention.
He also pledged to continue building partnerships aimed at bridging healthcare gaps for vulnerable residents.
The programme was undertaken under his social intervention initiative, tagged #JASCARES.
