Northern Business Fair: SMEs and agribusinesses key to Ghana's economic growth

Ecobank Ghana, a key sponsor of the Northern Business Fair, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agribusinesses and women-led businesses, describing entrepreneurship as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the Northern Business Fair on Saturday, July 25, the Branch Manager of Ecobank in Tamale, Isifu Adam, said the bank’s decision to sponsor the event for a second consecutive year reflects its continued investment in businesses that contribute to economic development across Northern Ghana.

According to him, Ecobank believes entrepreneurs, traders, farmers, SMEs and women-led enterprises remain at the centre of the country’s economic transformation, making it imperative for financial institutions to provide the support needed for their growth.

“As an African bank, we’ve been able to support our entrepreneurs, especially agribusinesses and women-led businesses in the north, to push the development of this country,” he said.

Adam further noted that the bank’s support for the fair aligns with its commitment to Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda by helping businesses access financial resources to expand their operations and create jobs.

“We are at our best to support the 24-hour economy, and we do that by sponsoring this programme to ensure that we give money to the people who are driving the economy to bring the needed development,” he stated.

He added that Ecobank would continue to prioritise initiatives that empower SMEs and strengthen local businesses, stressing that sustained support for entrepreneurs remains critical to accelerating economic growth.

The Northern Business Fair, organised by Channel One TV and Citi FM, runs until Sunday, July 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. The event is expected to transform the venue into one of the largest commercial hubs in Northern Ghana, bringing together businesses from across the country to showcase products, build partnerships and connect with thousands of potential customers.

The fair is powered by Channel One TV with support from Citi FM and is also sponsored by ECOBANK, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and Northshore Apparel Ghana Ltd.
