The final funeral rites of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Daddy Lumba are underway at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The event follows weeks of legal battles over the musician’s burial.

Thousands of fans began arriving early at the Heroes Park section of the stadium, where the body of the late musician is being laid in state.

The atmosphere is a mix of mourning and celebration, with devotees singing and dancing to Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits in honour of his enduring legacy.

Security has been intensified around the venue, with heavy police presence and snap checks in place to ensure the safety of mourners.

The funeral follows a decisive ruling by the Accra High Court, which allowed the burial to proceed after a family dispute failed to raise the GH₵2 million required to maintain an injunction blocking the release of the body. With the payment unmet, Transitions Funeral Home was directed to continue with funeral arrangements.
