Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for more balanced economic ties between Ghana and Spain, stressing the need for equitable business representation in both countries.

She noted that while Spanish firms continue to thrive in Ghana, Ghanaian businesses have yet to establish a significant presence in Spain.

Speaking after the Fourth High-Level Meeting of the Defence in Democracy Summit, Professor Opoku-Agyemang underscored the importance of reciprocity and urged support for Ghanaian companies seeking to expand into the Spanish market.

“Support each other, work with each other. Keep your eye on the bigger vision. The minister said it’s going to be 60 years of Ghana-Spain relations. Spain has been in Ghana for as long as Ghana has been in Spain; that is how equivalent of GB Foods in Ghana from Spain,” she said.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also called for stronger diplomatic relations between the two countries, stating that existing trade ties should be broadened to cover other areas of cooperation.

He observed that although annual trade between Ghana and Spain stands at about 300 million dollars, engagement remains limited and needs to be deepened.

Mr Ablakwa further indicated that the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Spain in 2027 should serve as an opportunity to unlock new avenues for collaboration.
