Amissah-Arthur was very generous to us – NUGS Russia mourns

Days after the news of the demise of Ghana’s former vice president, Kwesi Amissah Arthur in Accra, the Russian chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have paid glowing tribute in his memory.

[contextly_sidebar id=”PqVH05tTlYxX0vsv0p3YzJuVQWyb6Sgr”]The association in a statement copied to citinewsroom.com said the late vice president was very responsive to their concerns and made valuable contributions to the association.

Patrick J.A Puplampu-Dove, the president of the Association, who signed the statement said Amissah-Arthur made the personal contributions to the association’s welfare fund when he visited them in 2016 as Vice President.

“It is also worth highlighting his display of wisdom in responding to issues raised concerning the welfare of Ghanaian students in Russia,” the statement added.

STATEMENT BY NUGS RUSSIA ON THE DEMISE OF THE FORMER VICE PRESIDENT AMISSAH ARTHUR

On behalf of the National Union of Ghana students  in Russia ,We wish to express our sincerest condolence to the family of His Excellency the Late former Vice President of The  Republic Of Ghana, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur having served as Vice President from the year 2012 to 2016 .

The news of his demise indeed came as a big blow to the entire union.

We do recall how respectfully and seriously he took matters of this union .Notably among his keen interest to the union includes  his generous  contributions he made to the NUGS welfare fund when he visited St.Petersburg,Russia in June 2016 as Vice President.

It is also worth highlighting his display of wisdom in responding to issues raised concerning the welfare of Ghanaian students in Russia.

Ghana indeed has lost a great individual and he would forever remain in our heart as a hero who worked sedulously to see to the fast transformation of our dear country.

We therefore urge all students in Russia and abroad to remember the family of the late ex Vice President in prayers supporting all efforts aimed at giving him a befitting burial as an accomplished statesman ..

May He rest in perfect peace.

About Amissah-Arthur

Before becoming Veep in August 2012, he was Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.

From 1983 to 1986, Amissah-Arthur served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government.

He also served as the Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993.

From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the under the Fourth Republic’s first government until March 1997.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur, 67, was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by then-President John Atta Mills.

He held that position until August 6, 2012, when he became Vice-President of Ghana following the death of Atta Mills.

He was survived by a wife and two children.
