Anita Desoso demands identity of culprit behind unsavory comment against Zanetor Rawlings

A former First National Vice-chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Anita DeSoso, has demanded the immediate disclosure of the individual responsible for making derogatory remarks against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 4, she insisted that the identity of the culprit must be revealed and further threatened to organize mass protests if her demand is not met.

She warned that the case will never be dismissed, until the culprit comes out to apologize himself, regardless of the Speaker’s intervention by apologizing.

“We want to see the one who made that statement. We are not going to let it go because the Speaker has apologized. We just want to know the person who said it. How can you come out with such a story? The person is late, so even if you have something to say, you have to ponder over it.

“They think we are fools; we are not going to entertain this. What we want now is to see the person who said that, if not, I will call people, and we will demonstrate in this country, and people will be shocked. What have we done wrong for them to say such a thing to us?

“So whether the Speaker has apologized or not, we just want to see the person that said it. He should come out to apologize himself.” she asserted.

The controversy stems from an incident during parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025, when a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” targeting Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The remark was made while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House and calling for calm.

The incident occurred during a heated debate on the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah where tensions escalated when Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, challenged what he described as exaggerated praises from the Minority regarding JB Danquah’s legacy.

The situation intensified, prompting the presiding Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, to limit contributions to only parliamentary leadership, effectively silencing other MPs.

In a formal communication during parliamentary proceedings on March 4, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin condemned the remarks, apologized to Dr. Rawlings and her family and issued an ultimatum, giving the culprit one week to come forward or face consequences.

Despite the Speaker’s apology, Anita Desoso remains firm in her demand for the culprit to be publicly identified, emphasizing that an apology alone is not enough.
