Newmont Ghana Gold Limited has presented medical equipment worth GH¢2 million to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Pediatric Oncology Unit (POU) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to strengthen critical healthcare delivery.

The donation was made at a ceremony held on Monday, January 26, following requests from the two specialised units. The equipment is expected to significantly improve patient care and boost life-saving capacity at the facility.

Speaking at the event, Country Manager for Newmont’s Ghana operations, Danquah Addo-Yobo, said the company’s priority goes beyond the financial value of the donation and focuses on the impact on patients’ lives.

“At Newmont, we look beyond the monetary value of this donation. Our focus is on the lives that will be saved through the use of this equipment,” he said.

The items donated include two ventilators, two invasive patient monitors, two non-invasive patient monitors, two blood gas analyser machines with test cartridges, and an additional ten patient monitors.

Receiving the equipment, Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, thanked Newmont for what he described as a timely and critical intervention.

“This equipment will greatly enhance our capacity to provide critical healthcare and, in many cases, could mean the difference between life and death,” he noted.

Dr. Adam added that the support would go a long way in strengthening the hospital’s ability to deliver quality care to patients requiring specialised and intensive treatment.
