The Accra Regional Police Command has disclosed that 33-year-old Latifa Salifu, accused of stealing a four-day-old baby boy at Mamprobi Hospital, remains in police custody after failing to meet her bail conditions.
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit Circuit Court on Wednesday, March 4, granted the accused, Latifa Salifu, bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify with landed property valued at GH¢150,000.
The sureties are required to deposit their Ghana Cards with the Court Registry, while the accused must surrender all her travel documents.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, March 5, the Head of Public Affairs for the Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, revealed that the suspect is still in custody as she couldn’t meet the bail conditions
“And for those of you who are still following up on the baby thief at Dansoman, you know she was taken to court, she was remanded. She reappeared in court yesterday. She was granted bail, but she hasn’t met the bail conditions,” she said
During the court hearing on Wednesday, March 4, counsel for Latifa Salifu, Dr Hamisu Muhammad, applied for bail, arguing that his client had cooperated with the Police since her arrest on February 17, 2026. He submitted that she is not a flight risk, has a fixed place of abode, and is engaged in lawful trade as a clothes dealer.
The prosecution did not oppose the application but urged the court to impose strict conditions to ensure the accused’s availability for trial, including justification with landed property.
